Dipke says CJP supporters detained by Assam Police; What were the cockroaches doing there?

Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke said on Sunday that the Assam Police detained the movement's co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and other supporters and took them to an 'unknown location'.

Dipke said that Ranka and the CJP supporters were planning to have a volunteer meet-up in Assam when they were 'picked up' from a private residence.

"They have still not been told under what charges or on what grounds he has been detained," Abhijeet Dipke posted on X. "If Ashu is not released, I will go to Assam along with other CJP members. Himanta can arrest us all."

Dipke has claimed that lawyers representing CJP were not being allowed to enter the place where Ranka and the others are allegedly being detained. Ranka posted a video of himself inside a police van, claiming the police disrupted their peaceful meet-up. 

Why is the CJP in Assam?

The CJP protesters have raised a handful of issues, including rigging of elections, man-made floods and a poor school system in Assam. 

Before being detained, Ranka accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of intervening in the delimitation of constituencies held in the state before the Assembly polls. The BJP-led NDA secured a massive win in the polls held in April this year. 

Ranka also claimed that they were fighting for the rights of the people of Kaziranga. However, the CJP leader did not elaborate on the issue.

There have been protests in Kaziranga in connection with a proposed luxury hotel project near the national park. An activist, Pranab Doley, had been arrested in connection with the protests in July.
